CURIS System Chosen as Semi-Finalist for new COVID-19 Response Challenge from New York MTA and The Transit Innovation Partnership

The portable CURIS Decontamination System for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)

We are confident that our state-of-the-art disinfection technology system would help make the NY MTA transit system one of the safest in the world

CURIS System is proud to announce today that is has been selected as a semi-finalist in The Transit Innovation Partnership and the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) new COVID-19 Response Challenge to engage the private tech industry and to rapidly evaluate and deploy innovative technologies that make transit safer, healthier and more responsive to customer and workforce needs in light of the global pandemic.

As part of the proposal for submission, CURIS was required to state how its technology makes transit safer, healthier and more responsive amid the COVID-19 pandemic and how the product addresses the problem in the context of public transit in the New York metro region. CURIS System drew from its already-tested and proven experience with other major metropolitan transit companies, including the City of Portland’s mass transit provider TriMet and others, to demonstrate how its CURoxide™ Hydrogen Peroxide blend and fogging system protects passengers against COVID-19 and other infectious disease. CURoxide is the only pulse fogging system included on the EPA’s List-N for efficacy against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) and has shown to be 99.9999% effective in killing the most resistant pathogens, while equally as important proving safe to administer and leaving behind no toxic or damaging residues.

With just a single human operator, the CURIS Decontamination System is the first portable, hydrogen peroxide-based fogging system capable of disinfecting a room or enclosed area via patented pulse technology. It has revolutionized disinfection practices and cleaning protocols, changing expectations of germ safety from “attempts to just clean better” to an achievable, measurable kill result of dangerous germs. While most systems rely on dispensing chemicals and turning off once the desired time is achieved or depend on manual spraying, CURIS goes a step further by focusing on a ‘maintained pathogen-kill zone.’ Its system is designed to reduce human error with a hands-free system for remote operation that allows the operator to monitor, manage, measure, track and report, including the ability to quickly prove, and continuously improve, decontamination efforts.

Unlike other systems, CURoxide provides 100% touchless comprehensive disinfection to achieve a 99.9999% kill rate without exposing staff or transit passengers to harmful chemicals or pathogens. In addition, the use of the remote CURIS® hydrogen peroxide pulse fogging with onboard smart technology enables staff to treat rail cars or buses from outside the space without ever coming into contact with dangerous germs or harmful chemicals. Vehicles can be disinfected in between routes or at the end of the day, which is key to protecting everyone involved. As an added bonus, CURIS’ cloud-based data management and mobile app facilitate remote operation, report generation and detailed analysis.

“As we all sadly saw, the pandemic hit New York as hard as anywhere in the world, so we are very pleased to have been selected as a semi-finalist of this COVID-19 Response Challenge from New York’s MTA and The Transit Innovation Partnership,” said Frances Grinstead, CEO of CURIS System. “We are confident that our state-of-the-art disinfection technology system not only would help make their transit system one of the safest in the world, but it could be done so in a way that’s easily manageable and reportable with proven results after each process and in no way harmful to operators, passengers or employees.”

The CURIS Decontamination System was designed and is manufactured in the U.S.A. and has been in use for more than seven years to stop the spread of infectious disease in commercial settings across the world, including by the National Guard, which was deployed to fight against COVID-19 and many more. It is made to effectively work in such environments as:

  • Transportation systems, including buses, airplanes, subways, taxis
  • Emergency Response Operations, including fire stations, police stations
  • Schools
  • Medical facilities, including hospitals, assisted living/long-term care facilities
  • Laboratory spaces
  • Sports facilities and gyms
  • Military facilities
