Esteemed educator Candace Nortey has been named Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Slone Partners, it was announced today by Slone Partners CEO Leslie Loveless. In this newly created role, Nortey will help expand the firm’s diversity efforts to enhance opportunities for minority candidates, both internally and for the company’s client partners.
“Candace Nortey is an extremely accomplished leader in her field and brings a track record of success to Slone Partners at a time when our firm is renewing its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across the board,” said Slone Partners CEO Leslie Loveless. “As someone who has known Candace for more than 10 years, I can attest to her extraordinary skills, passion, and devotion as a cultural curator, innovator, and advocate. She brings a wealth of knowledge and an unflagging spirit to our company as we push ourselves and our industry forward in the years to come.”
Nortey has more than 15 years of experience in both teaching and administrative positions in the Metropolitan School District (MSD) of Lawrence Township in Indianapolis, Indiana, serving most recently as Director of Elementary Education. She was named the 2019 National Coalition of 100 Black Women’s Breakout Woman of the Year in Education; the 2019 Lawrence Township Administrator of the Year; the 2019 Indiana Black Expo Excellence in Education Award winner; and the 2012 Milken Award winner for the state of Indiana.
Nortey earned a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.S. in Educational Leadership at Indiana University, Bloomington, and an Educational Specialist Certificate (Ed.S.) at Indiana State University. She begins her new position at Slone Partners this week.
“I am delighted to join a company that has adopted diversity, equity, and inclusion as one of its core values, and is committed to living those values every day,” Nortey said. “In my experience, diverse teams make organizations stronger, and organizations that strive to develop and elevate women and people of color into leadership positions are those that will achieve the greatest success. Our motto at Slone Partners is ‘people are our science,’ and my background as an educator has exposed me to many kinds of different people – students, teachers, parents, and staff – all of whom wish to be respected, valued, and informed, the same principles which I will apply to my new role at Slone.”
The creation of the role of Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is aligned with Slone Partners’ long-standing devotion to promoting more women and people of color into the life sciences. The company, in conjunction with multiple industry and academic partners, will soon be launching the ENVISION program, designed to recruit and mentor underrepresented minorities who endeavor to become the next generation of life sciences leaders. Slone Partners also produces a Diversity Interview Series spotlighting leaders across the industry, and company founder Adam Slone established Life Serve Youth Foundation, a 501(c)(3) designed to help underserved youth thrive through athletics.
