Today, Curative Inc., an end-to-end COVID-19 testing company, announced the launch of its integrations with ShipStation, the world’s leading web-based e-commerce shipping solution, and ShipEngine, the world’s leading shipping API. ShipStation and ShipEngine will power the logistics behind Curative’s rapid testing, which offers an easy to use, pain-free self-administered oral fluid test for efficient results.
Curative’s testing approach is designed to alleviate many of the existing challenges around COVID-19 testing. The United States is currently experiencing a shortage of tests. The tests that do exist require a nasal swab taken by a healthcare worker wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). Patients may wait days for the results of tests, and those results may be unreliable.
The Curative test is self-administered and therefore does not require close contact by healthcare workers. An orthogonal supply chain has mitigated the current supply chain challenges faced in sourcing the materials needed to scale testing and end the COVID-19 pandemic. With plenty of testing capacity available in the Curative labs, the custom software used by the company releases test results to patients, physicians, and health departments in about 24 hours after receipt at the lab. To help make this rapid reporting possible, Curative integrated with ShipStation and ShipEngine to facilitate the shipping of outbound and inbound tests, plus the tracking of tests in transit.
Curative typically works with large government institutions and agencies, like correctional departments. The Curative team prints shipping labels from ShipStation when sending boxes of bulk tests to its customers for distribution. After tests are conducted, customers access a portal to facilitate shipping to one of two processing facilities — one located in Los Angeles and one near Washington DC.
Inside the portal, users place “orders” through WooCommerce to indicate how many tests they have for processing. A ShipEngine integration allows users to quickly print labels for shipping to the facilities, and ShipEngine’s tracking API allows the facilities to monitor how many tests are in transit and when they will arrive. In the coming months, Curative will add a NetSuite integration that analyzes capacity at the two testing facilities and routes the live tests to the facility that can process them the fastest.
Curative’s facilities are currently processing about 60,000 tests per day with plenty of additional capacity. The company plans to test 1 million samples per week in August.
“One company cannot end this pandemic alone. We are thrilled to partner with ShipStation and ShipEngine to provide the critical shipping and software integrations we need to safely and efficiently deliver samples and results to patients,” said Fred Turner, Curative’s CEO.
“The spread of COVID-19 has made an impact on the way we live and work here in the United States and around the world,” said James Gagliardi, ShipEngine’s general manager. “It’s a privilege for the ShipStation and ShipEngine teams to support a company like Curative that is seeking to lessen that impact on healthcare workers, supply chains, and day-to-day life.”
Curative’s testing powered by ShipStation and ShipEngine officially launched on July 23, 2020.
