“Even though our “normal” lives have come to a standstill at the moment, PD does not stop. We have been creating an extensive array of virtual programs to help our PD community feel supported, engaged and informed while local restrictions have kept most people at home,”

The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) has announced the exciting continuation of the interactive educational series entitled Dr. Gilbert Hosts. The popular series is hosted by APDA’s Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Rebecca Gilbert and features Parkinson’s disease (PD) experts, people living with PD, care partners, and others who offer interesting and important perspectives on all aspects of PD.
The next live episode on August 10 will welcome special guest ESPN founder, Bill Rasmussen. Rasmussen has been living with Parkinson’s disease (PD) since 2014 and will share his personal story and his irresistible sense of optimism. Dr. Gilbert will talk with Rasmussen about his enthusiasm for life despite his diagnosis, the benefits of finding a support network, and much more.
Upcoming installments of Dr. Gilbert Hosts (via Zoom):
Registration is free and people can register by visiting http://www.apdaparkinson.org/dr-gilbert-hosts/. Additional episodes are currently being scheduled, with the series extending through the end of 2020, and beyond. “Even though our “normal” lives have come to a standstill at the moment, PD does not stop. We have been creating an extensive array of virtual programs to help our PD community feel supported, engaged and informed while local restrictions have kept most people at home,” states Dr. Gilbert. “As part of this effort, we are excited to extend the Dr. Gilbert Hosts series, and our next guest Bill Rasmussen will inspire our participants with his personal story and optimistic outlook.”
Part of the popular appeal is the participant’s ability to ask questions live during the program. Dr. Gilbert and the featured guests take on the many questions from the audience and answer them live during the program. This interaction helps participants feel connected to others in the PD community and get the specific information they are looking for.
All sessions are recorded and available to view any time afterwards. All eight past episodes can be found on the APDA website in the Educational Video Library and feature an impressive array of esteemed PD experts – see full list below.
Born out of necessity during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, this virtual series began as a weekly Q&A session during which Dr. Gilbert hosted an expert guest to tackle a topic related to PD and COVID-19. The PD community had significant concerns about their personal health and potential increased risk regarding the virus so APDA stepped in to help educate the community and alleviate fears. The continuation of the series will cover many aspects of life with PD, beyond COVID-19.
This series is supported by a generous grant from GENENTECH.
