Sun Mar Healthcare Deploys a Strong and Swift Response to COVID-19

The Strike Team is dedicated to assist with deep cleaning and disinfecting throughout all the Sun Mar Healthcare facilities on a routine basis.

We are doing everything we can to limit the spread of COVID-19. We believe these initiatives will be very effective and will strive to make every facility as safe as possible.

Sun Mar Healthcare announces additional investment to reduce the risks of infectious diseases for patients and staff. These measures include partnering with industry infectious disease experts, implementing leading-edge disinfectant technologies, and expanding the infection prevention resources. This timely response is based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and local county public health agencies to reduce the spread and impact of COVID-19.

“We want to maintain the confidence of employees, patients, family members and the local communities we serve,” said Frank Johnson, CEO of Sun Mar Healthcare. “We can’t guarantee that we won’t have instances of illness, as this is a global problem affecting all communities, but we are working continuously in taking action that will reduce the risk and increase the safety of our environment.”

The company created a dedicated Environmental Strike Team to assist with deep cleaning and disinfecting throughout all facilities on a routine basis. They utilize a CDC-approved solution that is an invisible surface coating that prevents pathogens from existing on surfaces for at least 90 days. Places like The Pentagon, the Mayo Clinic, and other leading institutions have also been using this product safely and effectively.

Additionally, each facility will soon deploy a new whole-room disinfection technology, utilizing hydrogen peroxide and silver “fog” that permeates the space and kills microorganisms. This will provide an additional layer of protection prior to any new admission and following every discharge.

Sun Mar also hired an experienced Special Operations Nurse to assist the Facility Infection Prevention nurses already in place. They maintain close communication with local and state health officials to ensure the company is taking all the appropriate steps to meet the demands of the circumstances. Even before the pandemic, Sun Mar had partnered with Expert Stewardship and Dr. James A. McKinnell, a leading infectious disease expert who has published over 40 papers and is a leader in antimicrobial and antibiotics resistance. Dr. McKinnell advises local and state health officials in providing support, advice, and direction on how to operate most safely during the pandemic.

“We are doing everything we can to limit the spread of COVID-19,” Johnson said. “We believe these initiatives will be very effective and will strive to make every facility as safe as possible.”
