Drinking Fountain Lockout Device offers simple, safe solution for schools

Emedco, a national safety company headquartered in Buffalo, has developed an innovative solution to restrict drinking fountain use in schools as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The onset of summer and the eventual next school year presents a challenge to education administrators to take drastic measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, especially in high traffic areas in schools. This new device provides an easy-to-install bright red physical barrier made of tamper-resistant polypropylene that will completely cover the fountain spout and lock in place.

“This is a simple, clean solution for preventing the spread of COVID-19 in schools through stopping the use of water fountains,” said Paul Schneeberger, the product manager behind the device. “Whether preschool or high school students, this will help keep people safe.”

While the device will prevent water fountain usage, it won’t prevent water flow to a bottle-filling station that might also be connected to the water fountain so staff and students can remain hydrated.

As an added bonus, the device can then be used to lock out standard plug valves within the stem diameter range when the pandemic is over.
