Physicians Lab Launches At-Home Health & Wellness Kits With Mitra Devices From Neoteryx

“We appreciate the ease-of-use and precision of the Mitra blood collection device, and the collaborative support from Neoteryx so we can better serve practitioners in monitoring their patients remotely,” said David Kessler, President of Physicians Lab.

Physicians Lab, a state-of-the-art laboratory services provider for practitioners and patients across the United States, has launched two new hormone profiles and at-home wellness kits that will provide participating practitioners with the ability to remotely monitor patients undergoing hormone therapy. The kits include Mitra® devices from Neoteryx, which allow patients to easily collect their own blood using a simple finger-stick method. Patients can mail their blood samples directly to Physicians Lab for testing and analysis. The lab results will be submitted to their practitioners, who will use the data to monitor their hormone therapy patients remotely, allowing them to stay safe at home. The blood panel results, paired with urine analyses, will furnish practitioners with additional clinical information in hormone metabolism, to help them make more informed decisions regarding hormone balance, certain metabolic issues and health risks.

The Mitra device, which is based on volumetric absorptive microsampling (VAMS®) technology, delivers high-quality samples for precise and reliable testing and analysis of a person’s hormone profile.

“We appreciate the ease-of-use and precision of the Mitra device, and we also appreciate the collaborative support we have received from Neoteryx in integrating Mitra into our workflow so we can better serve practitioners in monitoring their patients remotely,” said David Kessler, President of Physicians Lab.

Clinicians in multiple specialties are using the analytical laboratory services from Physicians Lab to provide preventive medicine and wellness for a range of patients. By providing the medical community with at-home specimen collection kits and high-precision lab testing, Physicians Lab supports practitioners seeking to engage aging and chronically ill patients in their own healthcare.

“Offering easy and affordable at-home testing allows patients to take control of their health and wellness,” said Clifford Morris, PhD, Director of Research and Development at Physicians Lab. Dr. Morris pointed out that roughly 80% of American deaths each year are due to chronic health issues. “We are committed to reducing that number through developing affordable and universally accessible health and wellness solutions in both urine and blood. The Mitra device made this at-home solution possible through its innovative and reliable design and affordable cost.”

The wellness kits from Physicians Lab, which patients can purchase out-of-pocket, are helping more clinicians and medical practices transition to telehealth and cash-pay options for patients who want health & wellness testing with safer and more convenient options. Providing telehealth and remote monitoring options is critical during the coronavirus pandemic, particularly among older adults who are more vulnerable to complications from COVID-19 illness and must take extra precautions to avoid exposure in blood draw centers and other healthcare settings.

“By adding Mitra microsampling devices to these remote collection kits, we have provided patients an easy and safe way to collect a blood sample at home, and we have also provided practitioners with a more comprehensive clinical picture of their patients’ health status before, during and after hormone therapy,” said Stacy Hinz, Director of Clinical Education at Physicians Lab. “The Mitra microsamples provide practitioners with additional data that helps them provide care personalized to the needs of each patient.”

Physicians Lab developed a human whole blood steroid hormone panel that would work in concert with at-home specimen collection. The goal was to build a base methodological system for linear growth and flexibility in different areas of testing with as much lab automation as possible. Dr. Morris and the team validated a lab analysis process that would work efficiently with Mitra and VAMS microsampling, which is easy to automate and should resolve volumetric hematocrit bias issues. The testing has Hemoglobin and Hematocrit, which are novel tests using VAMS microsampling. They devised a base panel of 7 main steroid hormones and 4 associated peptide-hormones. Their hormone blood panel can accurately detect as little as a picogram of hormone levels, utilizing LC-MS/MS which detects several hormones, including testosterone (free, bioavailable and total), estradiol, cortisol, DHEA-S, progesterone, 17a-hydroxyprogesterone, and androstenedione. Their ELISA protocol analyzes SHBG, albumin, hemoglobin and PSA.

“Neoteryx is honored to provide our Mitra blood collection devices to Physicians Lab, a company that is truly dedicated to using innovative technologies paired with their stellar lab services to give practitioners the reliable biodata they need to modernize personalized medicine and provide a higher level of preventive care to their patients,” said Fasha Mahjoor, CEO of Neoteryx.

About Physicians Lab

Located in Boca Raton, Florida, Physicians Lab was created to serve two purposes: provide state-of-the-art science to a growing number of practitioners focused on preventive medicine and wellness for the aging population, and deliver superior solutions to medical practices and patients that are actively seeking to manage their health through innovations in technology. Physicians Lab delivers the tools necessary for convenient, affordable and timely lab testing with accurate and reliable results. Physicians Lab offers urine testing to track free hormones, hormone metabolites and nutrient insufficiencies that can disrupt a variety of metabolic pathways in the body. Our unique method of collecting urine five times a day is a simple way to normalize the fluctuations that most patients experience in hormone levels throughout the day (known as circadian rhythm). This method presents the big picture of a patient’s overall hormone and metabolic balance. We also offer at-home blood collection for lab testing and analysis to provide a snapshot of a patient’s total hormone level at a moment in time.
