This movie will powerfully reach the hearts and minds of filmgoers. That’s the magic of movies.

“Wallflower,” favorably reviewed by Variety, (https://variety.com/2017/film/reviews/wallflower-review-1202463549/) will begin its US theatrical rollout this Friday, October 4, 2019 at the historic AMC Empire 25 in New York City. Additional screenings are being planned for Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, Las Vegas and Seattle.

Forensic Psychiatrist, Richard S. Adler, MD, has had an exciting career. He testified at the sentencing hearing for “The Barefoot Bandit,” was a consultant to the Defense in the Kandahar Massacre of 16 civilians in Afghanistan, continues to work on death penalty and school shooting cases across the US. It was in 2012, that he was tapped to be the consulting co-producer for “Wallflower.”

As part of his duties, Adler obtained original source documents, interviewed first-hand witnesses, provided input on creative content, worked with the male lead, helping him prepare him for the role, and most important of all, organized a special screening of the movie for survivors. Adler insisted on active efforts to avoid glamorizing the murderer as well as violence in general. The psychiatrist helped the creative team better understand the true-life backstory of the murderer, adding to the haunting power of Wallflower’s storytelling.

Dr. Adler will be moderating the Q & A session that will immediately follow the New York premiere. The panel will consist of lead male actor David Call, director Jagger Gravning and producer John W. Comerford.

Friday afternoon, before the premiere, The John Jay College of Criminal Justice will be hosting Dr. Adler’s presentation, “The Successful Interaction of Forensic Practice With The Media: Lights! Camera! Movie Premiere!” Nationally-recognized legal commentator, lattorney Anne Bremner (@AnneMBremner) and John Jay Professor, Gerard Bryant, Ph.D, will both add their insights prior to a formal Q & A opportunity for students and faculty.
