Great Valley Publishing Company Receives ACCME® Provisional Accreditation as a Provider of Continuing Medical Education

Great Valley Publishing Company (GVP) today announced receipt of designation as an accredited provider of continuing medical education by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®). By receiving ACCME accreditation, GVP joins a community of educators committed to advancing healthcare quality through lifelong learning, including some of the most prestigious US medical schools, hospitals and national medical associations. ACCME-accredited providers certify educational activities for category 1 credit of the American Medical Association’s Physician’s Recognition Award (“AMA PRA”). The AMA PRA is utilized by state licensing boards and boards of medical specialties to re-license physicians and re-certify them in their areas of specialty and is recognized around the world by various countries’ physician certifying boards.

GVP received a two-year initial accreditation as a provider of continuing medical education. ACCME accreditation seeks to assure both physicians and the public that continuing medical education activities provided by GVP meet the high standards of the Criteria for Accreditation and the Standards for Commercial Support of the ACCME. The ACCME rigorously evaluates the overall CME programs of institutions according to standards adopted by all seven sponsoring organizations of the ACCME: the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, the Association for Hospital Medical Education, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, and the Federation of State Medical Boards.

In announcing this achievement, Mara Honicker, CEO & Publisher, said, “This acknowledgement of GVP’s performance-in-practice further empowers our core educational mission to ‘provide relevant, timely and independent continuing education to physicians and other members of the care team to improve our learners’ ability to apply new knowledge, skills and strategies in practice in support of improved quality of care and patient outcomes.’”

According to national continuing medical education expert, Steven Passin, President of Steve Passin & Associates, “Great Valley Publishing’s inclusion into the ranks of fully accredited physician education organizations in the United States places them among those medical educators that have demonstrated the highest levels of educational acumen based on quality and patient safety parameters consistent with identified needs of the physician.”
