The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM)® has elected Dr. Iman Majd as the new Chair of its Board of Commissioners. Dr. Majd will be the first physician and NCCAOM Board-Certified Acupuncturists to serve in this role. With the NCCAOM governed by its Chief Executive Officer and 10 Commissioners, the Board Chair has a significant impact on furthering the organization’s mission.

Dr. Majd, MD, MS, EAMP/L.Ac, Dip. ABFM, ABoIM, Dipl. Ac. (NCCAOM)®, DABMA, ABIHM, Certified GUNN-IMS is an Integrative Medicine physician practicing at the University of Washington, where he combines a whole-health approach with conventional medicine in primary care.
Dr. Majd achieved his Master of Science in Acupuncture from Bastyr University and is an NCCAOM Board Certified acupuncturist. He is also certified by the American Board of Medical Acupuncture (DABMA).
In pursuit of his passion for Integrative Medicine and integration of non-conventional approaches into the mainstream medical practice, Dr. Majd became board-certified by the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABoIM). He currently serves as the Clinic Director of Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Washington, and faculty at the UW Department of Family Medicine. His clinical and research interests include an integrative approach to neurodegenerative disorders, pain management and immune wellness. He is strongly committed to the notion of a more inclusive and collaborative health care model that embraces and incorporates different disciples in patient care.
Dr. Majd joined the NCCAOM Board of Commissioners in 2014 and is passionate about teaching and sharing best practices regarding acupuncture and integrative medicine to the next generation of providers.
As Chair, Dr. Majd will continue to be an advocate of qualified and competent acupuncturists through NCCAOM National Board Certification. “The NCCAOM is thrilled to have Dr. Majd commence his term as the Chair of the NCCAOM Board of Commissioners. He brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership at a time of major transformation and growth for the organization, said Mina Larson, CEO. “As the NCCAOM embarks on a path to integrate NCCAOM Board-Certified Acupuncturists into the U.S. healthcare systems through advocacy and public awareness, Dr. Majd’s exemplary background and experience is well suited to lead the NCCAOM Board of Commissioners in these efforts.”
The Board and staff of the NCCAOM wish to thank past Board Chair Afua Bromley for her strong and effective leadership during the last three years. Ms. Bromley will continue to serve on the NCCAOM Board of Commissioners as Member-at-large.
