Blackbird Technologies and M2M Solutions Settle IoT Patent Case

This patent describes an important improvement to the ever-expanding world of IoT technology. We are very pleased that the inventor of this cutting edge technology continues to see the value of her important contribution.

Blackbird Technologies has settled a patent infringement lawsuit related to programmable wireless communications devices.

In August 2014, M2M Solutions, LLC initiated a patent infringement action against Telit Wireless Solutions Inc. (“Telit”) in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware (14-cv-1103). The patent at issue is U.S. Patent No. 8,648,717 (“the ‘717 patent”), entitled “Programmable Communicator.” The ‘717 patent relates to an innovative machine-to-machine module that controls communication between two or more machines. These machine-to-machine communications encompass a variety of applications in which one machine is able to remotely monitor a second machine in a relatively autonomous fashion. In June 2017, Blackbird Technologies acquired the ‘717 patent and was joined as a plaintiff to the action. The parties settled the case in January 2020.

Wendy Verlander, President and CEO of Blackbird Technologies, said, “This patent describes an important improvement to the ever-expanding world of IoT technology. It is prevalent in fields such as automated meter reading, asset tracking and fleet management, industrial automation and controls, and the remote control of certain consumer devices and appliances. We are very pleased that the inventor of this cutting edge technology continues to see the value of her important contribution.”
