STACS DNA, the sample-tracking solutions company, today announced that Texas has completed its statewide rollout of the Track-Kit sexual assault evidence (SAE) tracking system. Live as of September 1, the system gives vital SAE status and location information to users at an estimated 3,000 state agencies, made up of more than 20 crime laboratories, 80 medical facilities, 300 prosecutor’s offices and 2,500 law enforcement agencies. Most importantly, it is available to more than 15,000 survivors per year.
“STACS DNA was able to bring the whole state of Texas online in just a few months,” says Steve Gareau, Chief Information Officer for STACS DNA. “This included gathering feedback from different user groups around the state, customizing Track-Kit based on their input, and developing a comprehensive training plan with sessions for all of the different users – hospitals, law enforcement, DNA labs and prosecuting attorneys.”
Texas has been a STACS DNA customer since 2009 when it selected STACS Database for DNA sample tracking and lab management in its CODIS laboratory. More recently, the state gave both Track-Kit and STACS Database its highest customer satisfaction rating for services. The implementation services STACS DNA delivered for the SAE tracking program included customization, configuration, and training. STACS DNA continues to provide on-going multi-channel support to end-users statewide.
“We’ve developed a valuable relationship with Texas DPS over more than a decade working together,” said Jocelyn Tremblay, President and COO, STACS DNA. “We are very pleased to expand our mandate and support the people of Texas in this important initiative.”
With the enactment of a tracking system law in 2017, Texas became the first state in the US to enact all six pillars of comprehensive rape kit reform and earlier this year established time frames for the submission and analysis of newly collected kits.
Track-Kit has now been implemented in five states – Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Texas and Washington – with other states to be announced.
