Today webcam enthusiasts worldwide are discovering which webcams were named to the 2019 Edition of EarthCam’s 25 Most Interesting Webcams. The 21st annual list from EarthCam, the leader in webcam technology and content, features live streaming cameras that entertained, informed and educated millions of people this year.
EarthCam’s global lineup of cameras supports the company’s tagline: “Where the world watches the world”. Serving as accessible resources for both entertainment and business purposes, the webcams allow viewers to virtually visit some of the most interesting places on Earth. This is evident from the roll call of winners.
The 2019 list clearly demonstrates the importance of webcams as a reliable, always-ready media source. For instance, the St. Louis Arch Cam in St. Louis, Missouri, made headlines and received millions of views on social media when it caught site of a meteor that lit up the November night sky. Also, the Abbey Road Crossing Cam in London, England, received heavy media coverage worldwide for weeks due to the Beatles’ “Abbey Road” album celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
This year’s Top 25 features live streaming cameras that range from the wild to the serene. It includes wildlife on the Flying Skunk Farm Cam in Massachusetts; Yo Jay Hudson Streams, a mural artist who creates awesome artwork live online; and the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon in Key West, Florida, a music venue that streams live acts from its stage. Also on the list are popular tourist spots, including the Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge in Zhangjiajie, China. Always fan favorites are zoo cameras, and this year the San Diego Zoo is one that got the nod for its array of animal cameras, including its popular baboon cam.
“For 21 years, we’ve been selecting webcams that invite us into places which are both familiar and unknown,” said Jeff DeLiberto, CamMaster for EarthCam.com. “These sites allow individuals to overcome financial and physical barriers so that they can explore worlds that they may never get to experience in person.”
EarthCam’s judging panel chose the 25 Most Interesting Webcams based on image quality, uniqueness and overall achievements in webcam technology. This year’s judges were Addison Green, an Emmy-winning meteorologist; Kendra Cameron-Jarvis, an Instructional Technologist for Buncombe County Schools in Asheville, North Carolina; Lori Peters, Vice President of Marketing at Triax Technologies (an EarthCam partner); and Sunny Katseanes, Education Curator for Idaho Falls Zoo in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
