Author Marina Riggins’s new book “Alzheimer’s Disease and other Dementias Specialized Visual Trivia Regarding Beloved American Celebrities” helps dementia patients

News Image

Marina Riggins, whose motto is “Love, Compassion, and Respect towards the residents,” has completed her new book “Alzheimer’s Disease and other Dementias Specialized Visual Trivia”: a useful book of therapeutic trivia carefully designed to help patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia to reconnect with their most cherished long-term memories.

Marina Riggins, MA, specializes in music, art, and recreational therapeutic activities for persons suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of Dementia. She has devoted most of her adult life to helping these individuals, visiting them in dementia care facilities on a weekly basis.

Author Marina Riggins describes her work, writing, “This is a specialized visual therapeutic trivia, which include pictures, questions, answers, and fun facts about famous musicians, actors, and comedians. It has been designed exclusively for dementia-care facilities or to be used at home. This particular therapeutic trivia is very helpful for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and other related forms of dementia. The main goal is to spark a conversation and invoke long-term memories, which is one of the cornerstones to performing successful therapeutic activities with the goal of reducing agitation and enhancing overall welfare. This book is printed in large bold-text format where the pictures are black and white to not confuse patients with visual issues. If some of the patients cannot join activities, the printed version of this book could be offered to them as well.”

Published by Page Publishing, Marina Riggins’s engaging work is intended to help activities personnel, recreational therapists, caregivers, as well as people who may be confined at home or otherwise not able to participate in the daily activities offered within dementia care facilities. The goal is to achieve more successful participation to improve the overall well-being of residents by reducing agitation, sparking conversations, and most importantly, bringing the joy of shared memories and experiences to their lives. This book was based upon many years of experience and observation in these environments. It was constructed with love, compassion, and respect toward our fellow human beings.

Readers who wish to experience this helpful work can purchase “Alzheimer’s Disease and other Dementias Spec” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

Cece Poister’s newly released “The Honeymoon from Hell” is a personal retelling of the author’s unusual honeymoon

News Image

“The Honeymoon from Hell”: an entertaining and brief collection of private memories. “The Honeymoon from Hell” is the creation of published author Cece Poister, a loving mother of two and Nana to four who was born in 1945 while her loving father was serving in World War II.

Poister shares, “Hawaii is the beautiful backdrop for the honeymoon that was saved for by pinching pennies. Much planning went into the trip because we were going to be there for two weeks. I could hardly wait to get started.”

“The Honeymoon from Hell” is my true story. It takes place in 1966 when going that far for a honeymoon was a bit unusual. What was to have been the dream honeymoon of a lifetime turned into one endless disaster after another. From wheels up to ‘home at last’ and everything in between, if it could go wrong, it did.

“As I look back at all that went wrong, I now laugh; but at the time, it was not funny and had me in tears.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Cece Poister’s new book will entertain and likely strike a familiar nerve as readers learn of the highs and lows of what was meant to be a trip of a lifetime.

Consumers can purchase “The Honeymoon from Hell” at traditional brick & mortar bookstores, or online at Amazon.com, Apple iTunes store, or Barnes and Noble.

Author Deacon Gregory Harris’s new book “Getting to Know God for Strangers” is an inspiring guide to growing one’s relationship with God and learning to trust Him

News Image

Deacon Gregory Harris has completed his new book “Getting to Know God for Strangers”: a powerful handbook for those looking to accept Jesus into their life and understand all He can offer.

As Harris writes, “I was unhappy with the way my life was going, and I had nowhere to turn, so I tried God. It was the best choice I ever made. My worst day since I came to Jesus is better than my best day when I didn’t have Him. So for the last thirty years or so, I have been serving Him. I used to be a very selfish man, but something happened. I can’t pinpoint exactly when it was, but little by little, I began to change into this new creature. I am not who I used to be. I cannot hold in this joy I feel on the inside. I will not keep it for myself. I have to share it with my fellow men and women. It is my duty to get this information to you, and I ask you to please bear with me so I may share this knowledge with you and do what has been asked of me.”

Published by Page Publishing, Deacon Gregory Harris’s accessible text is the perfect tool for readers who feel as if other religious books have not spoken to them because, in the words of Harris himself, “Getting to Know God for Strangers” is “user-friendly, all you have to do is practice it in your daily life.” Readers will be left with a new understanding of what a relationship with God can bring, and how to keep that relationship strong in all situations.

Readers who wish to experience this potent work can purchase “Getting to Know God for Strangers” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

Wapiti Medical Staffing Celebrates 25 Years Serving Rural Communities

Wapiti Medical Staffing, a healthcare staffing company with a strong presence throughout the Upper Midwest, celebrates 25 years in business this year. Throughout its history, Wapiti has remained committed to a vision of improving the well-being of the communities served: one employee, one healthcare provider, and one facility at a time.

Wapiti traces its roots to 1996 in a small, rural hospital in Iowa. Dr. Brad McDonald, a resident physician at the time, was tasked with managing the ER schedule at that facility. While there, Dr. McDonald saw a need to staff other rural communities with physicians temporarily to help fill staffing gaps (commonly referred to as locum tenens coverage), and an idea was born. Wapiti Medical Staffing began as a start-up of residents covering ERs on weekends, eventually expanding to full ER coverage, as well as Clinic, Urgent Care, Inpatient, Anesthesia, and other services throughout the Upper Midwest.

Wapiti partners with both healthcare facilities and medical providers to ensure that schedules are covered and that rural hospitals can continue to function at their full capacity. In addition to locum tenens coverage, Wapiti now provides permanent placement as well as an assortment of consultative services customized to meet the unique needs of rural healthcare facilities and keep them fully staffed. To help fill this staffing need, Wapiti partners with over 700 healthcare practitioners including physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and other specialties.

Additional Milestones:

2002: Wapiti headquarters move from Lake Nebagamon, WI to Milbank, SD.

2006: Wapiti starts its first Anesthesia contract in Hibbing, MN. Since that time, Anesthesia coverage has grown to several full and part-time accounts.

2008: Wapiti adds hospitalist services, starting in Virginia, MN.

2012: Wapiti merges with Siouxland Staffing Services (a medical staffing company located in Huron, SD) under the Wapiti name.

2015: Leadership, with the support of local investors, acquires majority interest in Wapiti from Dr. McDonald.

2018: Wapiti acquires Emergency Practice Associates (a medical staffing company located in Waterloo, IA).

Today, Wapiti Medical Staffing is one of the largest medical staffing firms in the upper Midwest with leadership based in Milbank and Huron, SD. Wapiti is a multi-year recipient of ClearlyRated’s Best of Staffing® Award, designating it among the top 2% of all staffing groups nationwide. Wapiti supports the healthcare needs of over 250 communities, working with more than 700 healthcare providers supported by 40+ internal Wapiti employees.

The American Academy of Pediatrics Launches Unified Publications Platform

“It is important that we are able to provide our publications in a way that is credible, current, & seamless, and partnering with Silverchair offers us the technologic capability, innovation & efficiencies we need.” —Mark Grimes, VP, Publishing of the American Academy of Pediatrics

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Silverchair announced today the launch of AAP’s new unified publications site on the Silverchair Platform.

The AAP is the leading publisher of professional, research, and clinical resources for pediatricians and child health professionals. AAP Publications includes essential policy manuals, in-depth clinical handbooks, quick reference guides, point-of-care guidance, practice management resources, and parenting books. The AAP also publishes the member news magazine AAP News and five scholarly journals: the flagship Pediatrics, Hospital Pediatrics, Pediatrics in Review, NeoReviews, and AAP Grand Rounds.

Having partnered with Silverchair since 2004, the AAP chose to expand that relationship to bring all their publications content onto a single platform, offering their users a clean, consistent reading & browsing experience, while providing AAP staff with a highly configurable, connected, and expandable family of sites.

On the new platform, AAP Journals, AAP Books, and AAP News join AAP Point-of-Care Solutions, simplifying navigation, unifying user alerts, and delivering new cross-promotional opportunities, integrated search, and improved SEO.

During the migration, AAP worked with Silverchair Universe partner DCL to convert their content, optimizing it for discovery and presentation. Using the new Silverchair Composer, AAP News will now receive the same robust search, browse, and display treatment as their highly structured journal and book content, enhancing discoverability. Front-end widgets display the news content with images and abstracts while back-end tools allow AAP staff to flag content they want to be featured without the need to know XML. AAP also used Composer to build out additional resources to deliver non-traditional content to their audience.

“AAP now has full access to Silverchair’s market-leading biomedical taxonomy, semantic targeting tools, self-serve site creation and management, and unified support, service, and training, among other operational efficiencies,” said Thane Kerner, Silverchair CEO. “We have been honored to expand our partnership with AAP, further enabling them to meet the evolving needs of health care providers and researchers in accessing critical medical information.”

“The American Academy of Pediatrics is the leader in pediatric publishing, providing critical guidance, research, news, and health information to pediatricians, parents, and many other audiences,” said Mark Grimes, Vice President, Publishing of the American Academy of Pediatrics. “It is important that we are able to provide our publications in a way that is credible, current, and seamless, and partnering with Silverchair on this new platform offers us the technologic capability, innovation and efficiencies we need.”
